Our Highways team is involved in some of the UK's most high profile, complex and stimulating projects that are diverse and technically demanding. We have an enviable reputation in the delivery of some of the UK's and indeed the world's most prestigious and challenging projects. Our current client portfolio includes the Department for Transport, Highways England, Transport for London, Network Rail, Dover Harbour Board, London Borough Councils, Civil Engineering Contractors and International Governments, for whom we undertake the planning, design and supervision of civil engineering and transport solutions to exceed our client's requirements.
The Highways Drainage team based in Birmingham includes well established and experienced specialist engineers involved in the design of surface water drainage solutions for many of Arcadis' UK road projects. The team also has considerable involvement with the drainage design of major highway projects in the Middle East region. The team works with Arcadis offices throughout the UK and around the world using the latest technology to provide complete drainage design solutions that include drawings, calculations and reports.
Owing to recent contract awards, we are now looking to recruit a high calibre Highways Drainage Engineer to work in our UK-based highways design team on a wide portfolio of schemes throughout the UK and ensure we meet the demanding workload.
We are seeking to locate a career minded Highways Drainage Engineer who has gained proven work experience in the design of drainage solutions for highways projects. To be considered for a role we are seeking candidates with the following credentials:
Minimum Academic Qualifications:
You will hold a Degree in Civil Engineering
Good Maths and Physics A-level or equivalent
Proven experience in project work on highways and infrastructure projects
Drainage design experience gained with highways and major infrastructure schemes
Application of DMRB standards for drainage design
MicroDrainage, AutoCAD and Civils3D experience including integration with BIM models
Ability to work in a multi-location team environment
Duties & Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Team Leader / Project Manager, you will provide technical support into assigned projects ensuring successful delivery of technically challenging drainage schemes. As we operate in such a diverse marketplace, we can safely say that you will gain an experience of working on a wide and varied portfolio of projects which will enhance your skills and test your technical knowledge.
You will be responsible for assisting in the delivery of project-related tasks to meet budget, time-frame and quality targets, meeting or exceeding client expectations, promoting and marketing all facets of Arcadis' services during interfaces with clients and other sectors and disciplines and contributing towards the achievement of the divisional business plan.
Your role will also encompass the control, co-ordination and supervision of less experienced Junior Engineers and Technicians ensuring that their work is in line with our guidelines and project requirements. We use overseas design offices as well as engineers located in offices throughout the UK to help deliver our projects. As a result the candidate would be expected to do some travelling to other UK offices and overseas design offices to meet the team and to maintain strong working relationships.

Responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:
Report directly to the Principal or Senior Engineer
Undertake hydraulic design and modelling as instructed by the Principal or Senior Engineer
Preparation and amendments to design drawings, calculations and design reports
Undertake CAD work and delivery of design drawings
Undertake 3D modelling work and delivery of design models including BIM models
Co-ordination with associated disciplines to ensure that interfaces have been considered and accounted for
Working in collaboration with other design disciplines to ensure the integrity of the overall design
Contributing to the resolution of technical issues on projects
Ensure that design tasks and deliverables conform to Arcadis system and quality standards
Reviewing own work to ensure accuracy and confirming to the required quality
Assistance in striving continuous technical improvement of the design team
Preparing and registering all relevant documentation and ensuring that all documentation is accurate
Keeping up-to-date with innovations and developments in the industry
Maintenance of a solid knowledge of industry standards and design codes
Being familiar with and compliant with relevant Health & Safety regulations and to promote a culture of awareness within the team
Performing other duties and responsibilities as required from time to time by your manager or Arcadis
