The System Integration and Test Automation (SITA) Engineering Manager will provide technical leadership and governance for the SI&T activities on a complex tactical land environment tactical communications system of systems integration project that will be delivered using a Continuous Delivery methodology. The SI&T engineering teams are responsible for system and system of systems-level integration activities and for release testing of incremental system baselines, predominantly using automated testing techniques that use virtualized representations of specialized military-grade hardware. To this end, the SITA Engineering Manager will champion built-in quality, will drive cost efficiencies by introducing test automation at scale using the Agile Test Quadrant to identify all aspects that would benefit from an automated environment, and will ensure adherence to best test practice. Formal verification and validation will use a combination of automated and manual test activities on the target hardware.
The SITA Engineering Manager will also support bid-type activities, scoping and costing the integration and test elements. As part of the role, the SITA Engineering Manager will define the integration and test standards across System and System-of-System-level testing, assuring system integrity and addressing the inherent challenges of integrating a complex tactical communications system with geographically distributed hardware and software that is often without the support of any fixed infrastructure. In so doing, the SITA Engineering Manager will build on existing integration and test policies and processes by incorporating the latest techniques, frameworks, and technologies. In addition, they will lead exploratory/prototyping activity as required to continually improve the test environment.
The role requires the SITA Engineering Manager to form strong relationships at a senior level across GD engineering functions, customer representatives, and third-party organisations, leading on how strategic test initiatives and ways of working are agreed and adopted throughout the enterprise. In relation to this, the SITA Engineering Manager will also be responsible for building and maintaining a system emulation/ virtualisation environment, which third-party developers will use to demonstrate and test their code before uploading the final software baseline
