Director Bridges Design:
An established professional engineering consultancy have an exciting and challenging opportunity for a Director to oversee bridges and Highways structures team at their office in Stockport, Cheshire. The Director must be Chartered with ICE or IStructE with at least 10 years’ experience post-graduation and have a minimum of 5 years’ experience working as a Principal. The candidate will need to have extensive design experience on design, replacement, refurbishment or strengthening of all aspects of bridge structures. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute technically and oversee all the management within the bridges team bridges and be first port of call to clients.
o Acting as Lead Engineer and Designer on large bridge projects work undertaken by the team
o Working with other structures teams across the Highways business to assist with suitable resource assignment to projects to ensure successful project delivery
o Mentoring and providing guidance to all other engineers and technicians, from graduate to Principal level. Be in charge of budgeting and forecasting projects costs and reporting these to regional manager.
o Taking a lead role and taking an active role as part of a delivery team on larger complex projects
o Detailed knowledge of relevant standards and contracts including DMRB, British Standards, Eurocodes, MCHW and NEC forms of Contract
o Good understanding of the health and safety legislation covering the construction industry, particular CDM Regulation 2015 in terms of Principal designer Duties.
o Experience in the inspection, assessment, design and construction of bridges
o Ensuring designs are carried out in accordance with current design standards taking into account of CDM legislation, whole life costing, value and risk management
o You must be Chartered Engineer Status (MICE or MIStructE) with min 10 years Post-Graduate Experience and 5 years working as Principal.
o 10+ years’ experience in the design of complex bridge structures and highway projects
o Experience with quality control procedures is a must
o Experience in programme management and project management
o Significant experience designing and assessing both concrete and steel bridges
o Good working knowledge of design using Eurocodes
o Detailed understanding of the design process and interfacing with multiple disciplines
o Experienced in the use of bridge design software packages such as SAM
o A dedication to good quality engineering ability to think creatively and solve structural engineering problems independently and efficiently
o Excellent interpersonal skills
o Full driving licence
o Ability to manage large projects including the preparing of programmes and managing risks
o Good project management skills, commercial awareness, financial management skills and ability to deliver work across a range of contract types
o Ability to develop and agree scopes and manage the internal technical supply chain, including budgets, programme and quality of deliverable, delivering within set time frame
o Experience of working with Highways England and other Authority/Government bodies
o Experience of writing bids and offers, and an understanding of the commercial risks associated with projects
